Deck Cadet Mark J Arroyo

Deck Cadet Mark J Arroyo joined the V.Ships Cadet Scheme on July 14, 2012 and finished his first year of on board cadetship training on November 15, 2013.

Prior to his B.S in Marine Transportation course he also completed a B.S in Nursing. In addition to this, Mark's brother in law is a Master mariner, Capt. Pedro V. Cavite III, who also works for V.Ships.

"He was the one who encouraged me to join and helped me get into the maritime industry. I look up to him as my role model.

"As a Cadet my role is to become familiarised with all the safety procedures on board, work on the procedures relevant to tasks assigned and to perform tasks in accordance with work procedure and quality plans as instructed by the Duty Officer and Chief Officer.

"There is lots of training to do especially with regards to work and navigation. It starts at school and attending trainings facilitated by the company. Constant practice, learning from my mentors and superiors and being focused and attentive at work, I should say is the best training.

"I think V.Ships is a good and stable company in general. It provides fine benefits and they make sure they attend to their employee's needs. My ambition for the future is to be able to continue working in the company, learn and acquire more knowledge and skills as I take every step to hopefully also be a well-established Captain someday."
