Overall Purpose of Role
The requirement is for a Maritime Training Specialist to work with a dynamic team, contributing to the development of new and existing elearning and training products, including refresher courses and STCW titles for cargo, cruise, offshore and yacht sectors.
The position involves a combination of authoring elearning content and liaising with authors, subject matter experts and multimedia developers to ensure timely delivery of courses, in line with regulatory requirements.
The main responsibilities of the Maritime Training Specialist are to:
·Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and the Marlins team to develop new elearning courses and assessments.
·Act as project lead, from product inception through authoring and trials to final delivery to the sales and marketing team.
·Author complete courses, in line with experience and skill set.
·Pro-actively research and develop new courses, using all available means
·Advise Marlins’ management team on future STCW and other training areas that could be developed as elearning, to ensure compliance with upcoming legislation and regulatory changes
·Coordinate project contributors to ensure timely delivery of tasks.
·Oversee development progress using a variety of project management tools.
·Run the flag approval and accreditation process, identifying suitable approvals for courses; ensure all approvals remain in date.
·Review existing course titles and advise on required updates
·Use and contribute to Marlins’ ISO Quality Management System procedures, including issuing supplier contracts, purchase orders and record keeping
·Engage regularly with clients, both internal and external to scope out and deliver their training requirements
·Engage pro-actively with clients to gather, log and summarise product feedback for quality purposes
·Assist with beta testing and revisions
·Support training projects with key clients, as required, from time to time
·Provide input and support to other Marlins training and assessment products and services, in collaboration with the team
·Attend sales, marketing and training events, occasionally out of hours to promote Marlins products, meet clients and obtain updates on industry education and training.
·Understanding of impact of design and structure on learning effectiveness
·Understanding of test item writing / test design an advantage
·Ability to understand the use of IMO model courses for authoring content.
·Understanding of the flag state approval process and how Memorandum of Understandings and bi-lateral agreements work.
·High standard of accuracy in written work, with a critical eye for detail
·Able to deal with wide range of subject matter, including technical and soft skills subjects
·Able to work independently; motivated; flexible; resourceful
·Excellentteamworking skills: able to work independently and as part of a small team
·Good written and spoken communication skills
·Wellorganised, able to handle range of tasks effectively and work to deadlines
·Commercial awareness an advantage.
