Maintenance Design Superintendent (New Build)   - what does that involve?


Overall Purpose of the Job:


To support Project Manager (New Build) in the design of an accredited maintenance management approach and system to enable delivery of Saga Cruises capital build programme (Spirit of Discovery, Spirit of Adventure).  The role will require liaison with multiple stakeholders (Saga New Build Team, Shipyard, equipment suppliers), the ability to make evidence based decisions in a fast-moving new build environment and the integration of technical information into an effective onboard management system to meet the ship delivery schedule.  



Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


To assist and lead the ship management project team as directed and including the following.


  1. System Analysis, component failure mode evaluation.

  2. Reliability Centred Maintenance evaluation, including Condition Monitoring (CM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) consideration and implementation through the design of onboard management systems for delivery.

  3. Maintenance task assessment, service contract benefit and implementation.

  4. Spare parts evaluation – Critical and initial outfit to enable delivery

  5. Identification of additional training needs resulting from new equipment selection.

  6. Development of Safety Management System procedures.

  7. Attend new build and project meetings involving domestic and international travel.

  8. Visit project sites as directed involving domestic and international travel.

  9. Coordinate and liaise with other stakeholder groups.

  10. Maintain documentation, including stakeholder documentation requirements.

  11. Other duties appropriate to the role.



What are V. Group looking for?


  1. Proven experience within a commercial maritime environment with a Nautical (Deck), Engineering or Naval Architecture background.

  2. Management level qualified in the applicable field (STCW II/2, III/2 or Degree Level Qualified).

  3. Proven experience in project delivery, preferably involving passenger ships.

  4. Operational management experience.

  5. Excellent prioritisation and multitasking skills.

  6. Able to exercise resilience in a demanding and fast-moving environment.

  7. Good communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills across varied cultures, engaging and interacting with people at all levels.

  8. Good organisational and planning skills and a proven ability to work to, and meet, tight deadlines.

  9. Good IT skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Project).
